Award winning Hip-Hop artist, Derek Minor, is enjoying success at CCM radio with his new single, “Change the World,” going No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot AC/CHR chart. The tune features guest artist, Hollyn, and is from Minor’s current album Reflection that released on his Refection Music Group (RMG) label, in partnership with Entertainment One.

“Change the World” is partly inspired by Minor’s first visit to Haiti in 2015 with the non-profit organization Hands & Feet Project that provides family-style housing and sustainable solutions for orphans in Haiti. Upon landing in Port-au-Prince, Minor was immediately overwhelmed by the country’s economic crisis and was moved to use his voice to make a difference.

The concept music video directed by Patrick Tohill tells a heartfelt story of four individuals paying it forward. Lyrically, Minor takes a stand for love and harmony on the self-produced song that includes a beautiful chorus from Hollyn as well as adult and children choir backing vocals. He sings, “Beautiful people don’t you know you’re made in his image / The image of greatness / Why don’t we see his reflection inside of each other / In all of our faces.”

Minor was honored to enlist Gotee Records singer Hollyn on the song. “She’s an amazing vocalist, probably one of the best vocalists I worked with, period,” he says. “She came in and knocked out vocals like nothing.” The song also showcases Minor putting his rap talents on the back burner to sing on the entire track.

“I just wrote this song as an anthem, hopefully for people to create change,” Minor explains. “I think in today’s climate around the world, we have forgotten that our differences are beautiful. That God made each of us unique and that makes our world a better place. I think ‘Change the World’ speaks to that yearning inside for all of us to be heard and accepted with love.”

In speaking of the concept for REFLECTION, it addresses identity crisis in the United States, in a recent interview, Derek Minor said “I feel like many of the issues that we face are based off of identity issues. People, they don’t value themselves, they don’t value others, they don’t value family… Everyone has an identity crisis, and I wanted to contribute to that conversation with the record to say, ‘Nah, you were made for greatness. You weren’t made for no reason. You aren’t an accident. You weren’t just an afterthought by God. He made you, crafted you with an amazing purpose,’ and that’s the whole idea of the album — reflect God, reflect greatness.”
