After the New York Knicks won their first NBA championship since 1973, veteran guard Josh Hart praised God and described how he and his teammates had been “forged in fire.” Asked to react after defeating the Spurs on Saturday (June 13), Hart said, “First and foremost, glory to God. He’s why we are here. He’s why we play.”
Ten years ago, Hart and Knicks teammates Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges won an NCAA title together at Villanova University. Hart, 31, has played for the Knicks—his fourth pro team—for four years.

Later Saturday evening, Hart told reporters that being traded and doubted in the pros is “part of my testimony.” The athlete said he tries to “put my heart out there” and is “willing to sacrifice whatever it takes” to win, while glorifying God.
New York Knicks Guard Josh Hart Is a ‘Follower of Christ’
Josh Hart is known for publicly proclaiming his faith in Jesus. He describes himself as a “Follower of Christ” on social media, where he often shares encouraging Bible verses.
Last month, after the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, Hart posted a photo of himself praying courtside at Madison Square Garden. “For me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” read the caption, referencing Joshua 24:15.
Previously, Hart has said he relies on and often recites Isaiah 40:29 during challenging games. “My Lord works in mysterious ways,” he said in 2024. “The weak he renews strength…[God] allows you to walk and not faint.”
Another scripture Hart often references, 2 Corinthians 12:9, is about boasting in our weaknesses and relying on Christ’s power. “I try to play with more joy or more grace,” Hart said in May. “I’ve had to learn grace and not try to be perfect.”
Saturday, after clinching the NBA championship four games to one in San Antonio, Hart said the weight of expectations had been removed, adding, “It’s the lightest I’ve ever felt.” Sitting with his 3-year-old twin sons at a post-game press conference, the guard credited his Knicks teammates and head coach Mike Brown for their dedication and hard work.
After facing lots of “instability” in the NBA, Hart said, he “found a home in New York.” Although he’s not perfect, the athlete said, “I try to do whatever I can do to help the team win.” No one can doubt him anymore, Hart added, repeating, “Glory be to God.”
